WHAT A CONCERT!

I just, JUST returned from The University of Puget sound in Tacoma where I performed 3 movements from Brent Weaver's "Legends": Atalanta, Pandora, Echo. We were at the regional gathering of the Society of Composers, Inc. I went up early to catch the first concert at 10am - all chamber music. I played on the second concert at 1:30pm: Percussion Ensemble and Electro-Acoustic Music. I haven't attended a concert that knocked my socks off like that in YEARS! (the 1:30 concert) Four pieces impressed me mightily. Two sent me to the moon in ecstasy. One of those was Brent's, the other was "Camaraderie" for timpani solo and percussion ensemble, written by Daniel Adams. OMFG!!!!! Remember the name Gordon Rob. He was the college student timpani player. The University of Puget Sound's Percussion Ensemble performed all the percussion pieces and the group was awesome. Gordon Rob has rock star written all over him. If ever there was a performer who had it all...... stage charisma, chops, moves like Chrissy Hinde, genuinely nice kid. Daniel Adams has written the following for Piano Solo (just googled him):
The Glass Bead Game (1981/84) for piano solo
Between Stillness and Motion(2004) for piano solo
And for 2 pianos: Double Helix (1987)
I was going to stay and listen to the third concert of the day, the orchestra concert, which featured a piece by one of the participating composers. But I was riding such a high from the afternoon concert that I decided to enjoy my drive home ruminating on the kick-ass stuff I heard earlier.
More thoughts tomorrow......
